The conference is co-organised by the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS: www.isls.org) and the University of the Aegean.

CSCL 2009 is a major international event, organised biennially by ISLS, which gathers together people involved in all aspects of the field of technology-based collaborative learning, including research, education, training and technology.

The conference theme 'CSCL Practices' emphasises practices relating to technology based collaborative learning in three major areas: learning in typical educational institutional structures, learning in every day life, and learning in workplace structures.

Attendees can participate in a variety of sessions such as: paper sessions, interactive sessions, symposia, panels, workshops, seminars, tutorials, posters, educational showcases, demos and exhibitions, and could enjoy one of the several prestigious awards: Senior Best Paper Award, Student Best Paper Award, Technology Design Award, CSCL Practices Showcase Award

CSCL 2009 invites participation from experienced as well as early career researchers, designers, educators, industrial trainers, from various disciplines including education, cognitive, social and educational psychology, didactics, subject matter specialities, computer science, linguistics and semiotics, speech communication, anthropology, sociology, design, etc.

All submissions will be peer reviewed by an international program committee. Papers will be assigned to publication formats as described below:

Full Papers (8-10 pages). This type of submission is suitable for mature work. Papers that address a broad audience, and in particular those that help to set the programmatic agenda of CSCL will be assigned plenary presentations. Papers of equal quality that address a more specialized audience will be assigned to parallel paper sessions. The accepted full papers will be published in the CSCL2009 Conference Proceedings. Deadline: November 8, 2008 (extended).

Short Papers (4-5 pages). This type of submission is suitable for work that is significant yet is either still in progress or can be reported briefly. Authors will give a brief presentation, followed by the author's choice of a small group demonstration, interactive poster, further presentation, or combination thereof. The accepted short papers will be published in the CSCL2009 Conference Proceedings. Deadline: November 8, 2008 (extended).

Posters and Interactive events (2-3 pages). Submissions for posters, and interactive events should be 2-3 pages in length. Submissions for interactive events should specify what activities will take place. The accepted Posters and Interactive events will be published in the "CSCL2009 Community Events Proceedings". Deadline: December 20, 2008.

Symposia and Panels (2-3 pages). Submissions for symposia and panels should also be 2-3 pages in length and should outline the theme, names and titles of individual presentations within the theme and a short description of each. The accepted symposia and panels will be published in the CSCL2009 Community Events Proceedings. Deadline: December 20, 2008.

Pre-Conference Events. Instructions for submissions to preconference Workshops,Tutorials, Seminars, Doctoral Consortium, Early Career and First Timers Workshops as well as CSCL in Practice Showcases are announced on the CSCL2009 site. Deadline: December 20, 2008.
