Call for Papers: Rethinking EDucation in the Knowledge Society (RED-conference). International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies in Education.
March 7-10, 2011 , Centro Stefano Franscini - Monte Verità - Ascona - Switzerland
closing date October 3, 2010 www.red-conference.ch
CONFERENCE
The RED-conference brings together
experts and
researchers investigating the field of
technology in education. The
setting for this informative event is Centro Stefano
Franscini - the
congress centre of the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology of Zurich
(ETH Zurich)
situated at Monte Verità.
The primary goals of the red-conference
are:
• The provision of an
interdisciplinary discussion venue where both
veteran and young researchers in the area of digital
technologies in
education can share experiences;
• The provision of a networking
environment for researchers, with special reference to
funding agencies;
• The dissemination of research
results of
young scholars, contributing to their establishment within the local and international
research
community.
Contributions under the umbrella
rethinking
education in the knowledge society may come from a range of disciplinary fields and should
address,
directly or indirectly, one of the following "hot
topics" in the
field of digital technologies and learning:
• Sustainability. Innovative learning
designs, (partly) incorporating learning technologies,
are often introduced with high
expectations and
unrealistic promises to improve teaching and learning practices. Which organizational
and/or
mental preconditions promote the introduction of innovative learning designs?
Which kinds
of learning cultures are needed to make innovations sustainable? Which factors
support their
diffusion from the pioneering stage to a broader acceptance and implementation?
Which
research designs may support an evidence-based implementation of learning
innovations?
• Orchestration. How do
technologies
support teachers in managing multiple individual,
collaborative or class-wide
activities? Does
the physical layout of digital artefacts have
an influence on learning activities? Do
multi-touch
interfaces enable new learning approaches? Will paper documents be eradicated
or are
they integrated into new educational practices around augmented paper? Which
technologies
could capture workplace experiences to support corporate training?
• Informal Learning. The spread of
web 2.0
technologies has paved the road for new forms of informal learning. What do people
actually
learn by using these technologies? Do these technologies also impact on formal
education?
Do they change the way learning is understood both locally and
globally? Do
they erase the frontier between learning technologies and media in general? How do
we
distinguish an evolution that embeds a shift of paradigm versus a simple evolution
of tools?
What is the potential of informal training in corporate contexts?
CALL FOR PAPERS
Research papers are invited across
the widest
spectrum of Information and Communication Technologies in Education.
All submissions will be rigorously
evaluated in
terms of innovation, relevance, and quality.
A) Full Papers
Full papers should be innovative
and advance
the knowledge base of related fields. These
papers present major contributions to the
field and
should be between 6000-8000 words in length.
Conference proceedings will include all
accepted
full papers. An award for the best full paper will be presented during the conference.
B) Doctoral Research Projects
Doctoral Research Projects of
3000-4000 words
in length are invited. These papers present advanced doctoral research initiatives.
C) Posters
Posters should be in A0 format. A poster
abstract of
800-1000 words in length should be provided.
Submission
Final acceptance will depend on whether
the
author(s) can adequately address reviewers' comments.
Authors must submit their revised
manuscripts by the
deadline and must register for the conference by February 6, 2011 in
order to have their
papers included in the Conference Proceedings.
Please format every paper according to
the available
guidelines on the conference website. Please upload each paper on the submission page
as a Word
document or similar. Papers that do not adhere to the provided guidelines will not be
accepted for
review.
PUBLICATION
All accepted contributions will be
published on the
eProceedings of the conference.
A selection of the best 10 papers for
each track
will be considered for publication by the Journal of Universal Computer Science.
