CFP: Professional Learning Workshop at EC-TEL 2010
2nd Sig-ProTEL workshop on the analysis of requirements of professional learning from multiple stakeholder perspectives. To be held in conjunction with the 5th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL10), Barcelona, Spain, September 28th – October 1st 2010.
Scope
Professional learning is one of the key success factors for industry
today, because by continuous learning, companies are able to acquire new
market shares or open new markets and employees are empowered to fill
new functions and professions. The SIG ProTEL aims to foster research in
the area of professional technology enhanced learning. Specifically, we
will be focussing on the use of technology to improve the education of
employees at or near the workplace. For professional learning is still
not perceived as one research domain in its own right, only little
advancement is made that improves the state of the art despite the many
individual efforts spent on the domain.
Starting with two SIG ProTEL kick-off events last year, where
collaboratively a number of topics for the SIG ProTEL community were
identified, we now want to leverage the activities concerning ProTEL.
The aim of this workshop is to focus on the analysis of
requirements of professional learning from multiple stakeholder
perspectives. With this workshop we want to establish a baseline for
ProTEL which indentifies the differences and unique challenges which
TEL for professionals face (in contrast to TEL for schools or higher
education organizations). We are looking for use cases, scenarios,
requirements, insights, etc. which will help us define the scope of
ProTEL and shed light on the manifold research challenges to be tackled.
Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
- Use cases of ProTEL
- Requirements specific to ProTEL
- Success stories of ProTEL
- Lessons learned of ProTEL applications/activities within
companies
- Identification of differences between ProTEL and TEL at
schools or higher education
- Frameworks for crystallizing/analyzing a magnitude of
requirements for ProTEL
- Evaluations of ProTEL applications in companies
- Insights into ProTEL processes
Format
The workshop will be highly interactive: presentations will be
clustered and presenters will not only discuss their own work, but also
to explicitly comment on the work of the other presenters in their
session. We will make all the papers available beforehand in order to
facilitate this.
Accepted submissions will be published in the Journal of
Universal Computer Science (JUCS) - [http://www.jucs.org/]
. In addition we will publish a summarizing journal paper within one of
the TEL journals.
Organisations
The workshop will be a full-day workshop with the aim to bring people
together in the area of professional technology enhanced learning.
The SIG-ProTEL workshop is organized by
- Stefanie Lindstaedt (Know-Center, Austria)
- Martin Wolpers (Fraunhofer FIT.ICON, Germany)
- Angela Fessl (Know-Center, Austria)
Submissions
Authors are invited to submit original unpublished research as papers
(8 pages). Including demonstrations is explicitly encouraged. All
submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three members of the
program committee for originality, significance, clarity, and quality.
