Wouter van Joolingen is associate professor of Instructional Technology at the University of Twente. He studied Physics at Leiden University where he graduated in 1987. In 1993 he received his Ph.D. from the Eindhoven University of Technology in educational science.His main research interest is computer supported inquiry learning in science. Wouter van Joolingen has worked in a number of EU-funded project resulting in the SimQuest and Co-Lab systems that offer supportive environments in which learners can investigate and model real or simulated scientific phenomena. He coordinated the EC ReCoil project in which small-scale inquiry applications were developed to promote the use of inquiry learning in schools. Within Kaleidoscope he coordinated the CIEL European Research Team, that leads to an architectural framework for the design of open-ended creative learning environments based on the creation and management of emerging learning objects.
