Dr. Eleni A. Kyza

Eleni A. Kyza is a Lecturer in Information Society, in the Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology. She has been conducting research on the topic of new technologies to support teaching and learning. For the last few years she has been working on the development and empirical investigation of the web-based learning and teaching platform STOCHASMOS (http://www.stochasmos.org), seeking to understand how technology can best support learning. This project was funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the European Commission. Currently, she is working on the SYNERGASIA project, a project that builds on the work around STOCHASMOS. Project SYNERGASIA examines the role of new technologies in supporting synchronous and asynchronous computer-based collaborative learning among young students. Eleni Kyza received her Ph.D. degree from the Learning Sciences program at Northwestern University in 2004, with a specialization in Cognitive Science . She holds a master's degree in Technology in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (1996 ), a B.Sc. in Education, summa cum laude, with a concentration in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University ( 1993 ), and a Teacher's Diploma, from the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus (1991). Her undergraduate and graduate studies were funded through CASP/Fulbright scholarships. She is the recipient of a Marie Curie Fellowship (IRG, 2005-2007) from the European Commission.
