This conference, hosted by The Open University in partnership with Athabasca University, aims to explore and share work carried out in libraries around the world to deliver services and resources to users ‘on the move,’ via a growing plethora of mobile devices.
The conference will bring together researchers, technical developers, managers and library practitioners to exchange experience and expertise and generate ideas for future developments.
This conference on the theme of "Forms of Democracy in Education: Open Access and Distance Education" will be held in November 2007.
This conference is organised by Hellenic Open University, the Open University of Cyprus and the Hellenic Network of Open & Distance Education
The second International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction (ACII2007) will be a meeting point for researchers studying and developing the role of emotion and other affective phenomena as these relate to human-computer and human-robot interaction, graphics, AI, robotics, vision, speech, synthetic characters, games, educational software, and related areas.
With the advance of metadata standards, learning objects, Web 2.0 approaches to rip, mix & burn learning, wikis, blogs, syndication, user generated content, interactive TV, games and the ubiquitous availability of computing devices we can and have to offer more flexible learning services on a global scale. As one of the new objectives of the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission puts it: we need "Responsive environments for technology-enhanced learning that motivate, engage and inspire learners, and which are embedded in the business processes and human resources management systems of organizations". An important challenge is to bridge between informal learning strategies of the knowledge society and formal competence development programmes of organizations.
After the success of EC-TEL06, the Second European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning provides a unique forum for all research related to technology-enhanced learning, including its interactions with knowledge management, business processes and work environments. This is a competitive and broad forum for technology enhanced learning research in Europe and world-wide through specialized workshops and the main conference. EC-TEL 2007 provides unique networking possibilities for participating researchers throughout the week and includes project meetings and discussions for ongoing and new research activities supported by the European Commission.
This conference is the final event in a two-year European project (Covcell), aimed at supporting language learning and teaching in an online environment by adding tools which support collaboration and co-operation to the functionlities already provided by the Moodle learning management system.
As well as showcasing the collaborative tools developed by the project, the conference seeks to address critical issues in the field of online language learning from two perspectives: (1) the pedagogical perspective of the effectiveness of cohort-oriented, task-based approaches to language learning and teaching in an online environment; (2) the technical perspective of open source development of tools which support online language learning and teaching.
Collaborative systems have caused a drastic change in the way people focus work and learning, especially at a distance. P2P and grid middleware and applications have opened new interesting possibilities for collaboration and learning. P2P allowed collaborators to share their own resources, whereby grid facilitated the access to remote resources not affordable locally as well as the increase of the participants’ capacity to carry out specific tasks. Special emphasis is given to systems and applications that focus on participants that provide their own resources for the achievement of their goals. Another influencing issue concerns the analysis of both the systems performance and group interactions. The latter constitutes an important factor for group monitoring, support and performance.
The rapid growth of Internet-based technologies and the development of new computing paradigms such as Web and Grid Computing have opened new interesting possibilities for applications in new areas of computing and engineering. Among these areas, remote virtual laboratories, remote system control, experimenting and simulation based on Web and Grid computing are emerging as new application areas of such computing paradigms.
The aim is to develop applications that offer to researchers, practitioners and students remote services for working and controlling computing devices or engineering instruments. Further, Web & Grid applications can alleviate experimenting with benchmarks of problems, facilitate configuration, flexibility and repetition of experimenting in an efficient and user-friendly manner. Finally, many simulation processes can be conducted online providing thus ways to monitor such processes and extract useful and significant data for posterior analysis.
Nawa: Journal of Language and Communication is a new journal published bi-annually by the Department of Communication, Polytechnic of Namibia. It is a refereed, international journal whose goal is to advance knowledge in human language and communication. To this end, the journal publishes academic articles dealing with practical researches, pedagogical methodologies, critical analyses and theoretical perspectives in language and communication, and, related disciplines such as literature and information and communication technologies (ICTs). The interdisciplinary nature of the journal encourages research without boundaries in the Arts, Humanities, and related areas.

ICCE 2007 will be a prestigious and high quality international conference that establishes a forum for scholarly exchanges and interactions in employing the use of computing technologies in education. Organized annually under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education (APSCE), ICCE conferences have been enhancing quality research and development in technology-supported education throughout the Asia-Pacific region and internationally. The technical program of ICCE 2007 will include paper sessions, posters, tutorials, workshops, invited speeches, doctoral consortium and other special events.
The RuraLEARN international conference will bring together academics, agents of applied research, and field practitioners from Europe and beyond who investigate ways of promoting lifelong learning, in the widest sense, in rural communities and geographically disadvantaged areas. Conference participants will present the outcomes of their applied projects or academic endeavours, share their experiences from this work, and discuss towards drawing common conclusions and formulating recommendations for the future. Speakers will include renowned international academics and EU representatives.

Ethics, Cybernetics and Informatics are being increasingly related both: conceptually and instrumentally. A twofold purpose guides the organization of Info-CybernEthics 2007 in the context of WMSCI 2007:
To bring together researchers and practitioners working in this interdisciplinary domain with the objectives of:
Enriching the international reflection on the importance of the ethical and societal aspects of the Information Society.
Promoting a balanced overview on controversial issues and fostering the presentation of conflicting and clashing opinions.
Highlighting the conceptual, theoretical, and philosophical relationships between Cybernetics and Ethics, especially in the case of Second Order Cybernetics.
To expose and acquaint the usual audience of WMSCI conferences to the very relevant and important issues which are emerging in the interdisciplinary domains of Info-Ethics and Info-Cybernetics.
