  SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
  Collaborative learnin
g systems have caused a drastic change in the way people foc
us work and learning\ especially at a distance. An influenc
ing issue concerns the analysis of both the systems performa
nce and group interactions. The latter constitutes an import
ant factor for group monitoring\ support and performance. T
o support and enhance collaboration and learning\ P2P and g
rid middleware and applications have opened new interesting
possibilities. One the one hand\ P2P allows collaborators t
o share their own resources\ on the other hand\ grid facil
itates the access to remote learning services and resources
not affordable locally as well as the increase of the partic
ipants' capacity to carry out specific tasks. Special emphas
is is given to systems and applications that focus on partic
ipants that provide their own resources for the achievement
 of their goals.
This workshop aims at providing a forum f
or academic researchers\ professionals and practitioners to
exchange their experiences and their ideas about problems a
nd solutions related to the design\ development and use of
groupware learning systems and applications. Researchers can
report their ideas\ models\ designs and experiences on th

SUMMARY:Call for papers for a special issue of European Journal of E

 nable Development”
DESCRIPTION:
In engineering education\ there have been notable front
runners that have paved the way for others on the issue of S
ustainable Development\ and two decades after Brundtland\
various engineering schools have accepted the challenge of t
eaching it to future engineers. Reflecting this increase in
interest\ The European Journal of Engineering Education has
published already several articles analyzing and reflecting
  on SD teaching practices.

  In this special issue\ w
e want to go beyond factual reports on technical subjects\
curriculum change and institutional embedding. Although we m
ight learn from reports on each other’s successful course
or subject\ we are really looking for comparative studies f
ocusing on best practices at each level of SD integration.

Those that are interested in submitting a paper are i
nvited to submit by mail a one page abstract\ before Septem
ber 10\ 2007\ to the special issue editors.

  For fu

SUMMARY:AIED 2007 Design Workshop: The Design of AIED Systems: Learn
 er-Centred and Design Pattern approaches
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop takes up two approaches for the use of best
practices for the design of AIED systems and aims at bringi
ng together experts in these fields with practitioners. Lear
ner centred design (LCD) is a method for designing education
al systems which involves the learner (and\ in many cases\
other educational stakeholders) in the design of the system
. Design Patterns make sound practices explicit how to solve
repeatedly occurring design problems and provide re-usable
knowledge for creating systems. Both techniques draw on the
identification of guidelines how to design systems\ for thi
s workshop specifically AIED systems\ effectively taking in
to account learner's needs\ affordances of AI components\
 and pedagogical principles.

DESCRIPTION:
The rapid growth of Internet-based technologies and the d

SUMMARY:COSDA2007: The First International Workshop on Collaborative
  System Design and Applications
DESCRIPTION:
Collaborative systems have caused a drastic change in the
way people focus work and learning\ especially at a distan
ce. P2P and grid middleware and applications have opened new
interesting possibilities for collaboration and learning. P
2P allowed collaborators to share their own resources\ wher
eby grid facilitated the access to remote resources not affo
rdable locally as well as the increase of the participants
capacity to carry out specific tasks. Special emphasis is
given to systems and applications that focus on participants
that provide their own resources for the achievement of the
ir goals. Another influencing issue concerns the analysis of
both the systems performance and group interactions. The la
tter constitutes an important factor for group monitoring\
 support and performance.

SUMMARY:Communications in the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:
"Towards a Philosophy of Telecommunications convergence"

T-Mobile Hungary Co. Ltd. and the Hungarian Academ

  21st century.
  The participants include communication the
 orists\ philosophers\ psychologists\ sociologists\ econo

science. While in all areas of life we witness a radical inc
rease in the demand for mobile communications\ questions as
regards further directions of development are at many point

e mobile telephone is by now more than merely a device to tr

The organizers will cover the co

SUMMARY:Urban Computing
DESCRIPTION:
IEEE Pervasive Computing invites articles about urban com
puting: the integration of computing\ sensing\ and actuati
on technologies into our everyday urban settings and lifesty
les. Successful integration requires taking several facets o
f the urban environment into account at once. Urban settings
frame social behaviors\ they encompass architectural forms
and features that may or may not be harmonious with given t
echnologies\ and they are increasingly but variably permeat
ed by wireless networks and fixed and mobile devices. A key
challenge is the great diversity and density of people\ dev
ices\ and built artifacts found in urban places. Urban comp
uting ranges from city-wide transportation-sensing infrastru
cture\ to services embedded in a cafe\ to the bluetooth "a
ura" of an individual's mobile phone as he or she walks down
  a street.

SUMMARY:Call for Papers on Learning Communities
DESCRIPTION:
The editors invite scholarly articles on learning that ta
kes place within communities and sociotechnical design for t
his learning\ to be considered for a special issue of Resea

learning in online communities and studies of community-ori
ented approaches in educational settings are acceptable\ as
are studies of learning in communities of practice\ commun
ities of interest\ or groups defined in other ways. Papers
should state the authors’ position concerning how learning
takes place by virtue of the community setting (editors pre
fer papers in which community is intrinsic to the learning s
tudied). Although there is a preference for contributions th
at are grounded in empirical evidence\ strong theoretical p
apers will also be considered. Methodologies from diverse re
search traditions are acceptable\ provided that the quality
of work is convincing to researchers within the given tradi
