Latest learning technologies to land in Germany

The First International Kaleidoscope Symposium for technology-enhanced learning, to be held in Germany in July, will include interactive demonstration showcases of the latest learning applications from all over Europe, including the following:

  • A MAZEing Moon, experimental scenarios for science learning featuring Lego Mindstorms robots
  • CAERUS, a mobile tourist guide with location-sensing handheld devices
  • Fear Not! an interactive learning environment with synthetic characters, to address bullying problems in schools
  • APLUSIX, a successful shareware microworld for learning mathematics
  • Advanced video technology for collaborative knowledge building, which uses innovative, networked hypervideo in learning communities
  • ZAPs: interactive programs for learning psychology, featuring barking Pavlov's dogs and other animated characters for learning by discovery

There will be a press conference on Wednesday, 6 July at 1500.

Kaleidoscope is the European Network of Excellence which brings together European teams in technology-enhanced learning, covering a large range of expertise from technology to education, from academic to private research.

The Symposium, open to the public, brings together the best researchers from around Europe working with learning technologies.

The Symposium will include keynote speeches by Prof. Ulrich Hoppe of the University of Duisburg-Essen, and Prof. Richard Noss of the London Knowledge Lab. There is an invited talk by Prof. Susanne P. Lajoie of Mcgill University in Canada. Workshops cover nearly every area of technology-enhanced learning, and there is a special panel discussion bringing together experts from industry and academia. The Symposium will be opened by Horst Forster Director of E-Content, DG Information Society and Media, European Commission; and closed by Patricia Manson, Head of Unit, Technology-enhanced Learning & Cultural Heritage, European Commission.
