About Self-regulated Learning in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) environments
Self-regulated learning (SRL) is a proactive form of learning, in which
learners carefully observe and reflect upon their behaviours, and then
act upon what they have learned. As lifelong learning continues
to flourish in Europe, self-regulated learning (SRL) is becoming
increasingly important. While the primary focus of SRL research
has been on cognitive aspects, the importance of other aspects—such as
motivational, emotional, and social—are also recognised. Our
group seeks to integrate European research findings on SRL in TEL
environments, and to create a framework for further research on this
crucial topic.
Issues this activity addresses
SRL is a growing field as Europe becomes increasingly dependent upon
more effective forms of lifelong learning. Lifelong learning
implies that learning is likely to take place beyond traditional
schooling, and SRL is becoming more important with the increase of
student-oriented teaching and training.
Contributions to the field
We will issue a report outlining the state-of-the-art in the SRL in TEL
environments. In conjunction with this, we are organising a Kaleidoscope-TACONET conference
on “Self-regulated Learning in Technology Enhanced Learning
Environments: Individual Learning and Communities of Learners” in
Amsterdam on October 5, 2007 , at which Kaleidoscope members are
invited to participate and contribute.
We will also disseminate our findings at other conferences, including the upcoming Kaleidoscope Symposium.
