The First International Kaleidoscope Symposium on Technology Enhanced Learning was held 6 to 8 July, 2005 in Oberhausen, Germany. From here you can access reports from all the Symposium activities. Of particular interest may be the keynote speeches:

 

The epistemological challenge of designing for digital learning by Prof. Richard Noss, London Knowledge Lab

Supporting student-centered learning with cognitive tools by Prof. Susanne P. Lajoie , McGill University

Technological and pedagogical aspects of integrating learning processes by Prof. Ulrich Hoppe, University of Duisburg-Essen

Two main panel discussions were held. An international panel discussed How to Link and Share Innovative Technology-Enhanced Learning Practices World-Wide. A panel combining people from academia and industry and government discussed The Role of Networks of Excellence.

Workshops were held for the Kaleidoscope backbone activities. The Academy-Industry Digital Alliance workshop featured invited talks about case studies in academic-industrial collaboration. The revised plan for the Advanced Training Institute was presented. The Shared Virtual Laboratory was described and demonstrated. The Users' Group workshop included talks about linking researchers and users. And the first year of the Virtual Doctoral School was discussed, with a review of the first two courses, a comparison of doctoral programs throughout Europe, and plans for the future.

 

The Kaleidoscope special interest groups each held a workshop on the second day, most featuring invited speakers in their respective fields:

Computer-Supported Inquiry Learning
Learning and Technology at Work
Learning GRID
Philosophy of Technology-Enhanced Learning

 


A MAZE-ing Moon
Kaleidoscope joint projects and research teams had a shared session, with each one making a brief presentation then splitting into a poster session for free discussion.

 

There were showcases of state-of-the-art projects in technology-enhanced learning. Of these video is available of a few: CAERUS, COLDEX, and . All the showcases are described here.

A special Kaleidoscope Meets Africa workshop was held.

The Symposium was introduced by Patricia Manson of the European Commission. Additional welcome addresses were provided by local representatives.
