From 04 July 2006 till 05 July 2006 Location: Espoo, Finland Kaleidoscope
member Nicolas Balacheff (CNRS, France) is speaking at this conference,
which follows two previous eLearning conferences;
the previous one "Toward a Learning Society" was held in Brussels
in May 2005.
Against
the background of the refocused Lisbon strategy the conference will
examine questions such as how new technologies can effectively support
innovations in education and training, promote desirable change and
support lifelong learning for all. The conference will take a look at
the current situation and outline desirable future
developments. The conference will mark the shift from a
separate eLearning programme to a more integrated approach of ICT
supported lifelong learning.
The
European Commission will select conference participants on the basis of
the registration form. Selection will be carried out according to the
job function (e.g. practitioner, teacher, trainer, learner, employer,
trade union representative, ICT and eLearning developer), and sector of
employment (e.g. education, enterprise, employment, social, research,
policy and industry) to ensure that a balance of sector representatives
and geographic origin is maintained. Registration for the conference closes on 31 May 2006.
The Conference will focus on intelligent environments which is a rapidly developing area for industrial and academic research. The Conference aims to bring together researchers from both industry and academia working within the various disciplines that
constitute the field of Intelligent Environments. It is hoped that this will help to identify inter-disciplinary opportunities, stimulate
research and create links between industry and academia allowing the exploration of new frontiers in the area of intelligent environments.

Mobile Learning, although in its infancy as a research area, has to date
generated much interest and discussion among researchers. In particular,
financial, logistical or technical reasons, such as the ever increasing
availability of wireless portable devices, have provided a rich
environment for the proliferation of ‘mobile learning applications’. While
there is an increasing number of mobile applications and devices that
offer substantial potential to support and enable learning and teaching
processes, the danger of designing, developing and implementing learning
application for mobile devices that are not truly anchored in sound
principles of learning is something researcher in the area of mobile
learning must be mindful of.
Against this background, the Mobile Learning 2006 International Conference
aims to provide a forum for presenting and discussing cutting edge mobile
learning research. In particular empirical research informed by theories
of learning such as collaborative, contextual, constructivist and
constructionist approaches which are well suited for mobile learning
experiences and scenarios, is encouraged. Furthermore, given the
continuous developments in technology, the conference aims to generate
speculative debate in relation to where the field may be going.
