Within the field of CSCL, a number of approaches make detailed studies of social interaction. Among these approaches one can find distributed cognition, situated cognition, ethnomethodology and various sociocultural theories. In this workshop, researchers and PhD students that share an interest for interaction in computer supported learning environments, met in order to collaboratively perform detailed analyses of social interaction through a series of data sessions and seminars. Although the principal aim of the workshop was to provide opportunities to jointly perform analyses, a secondary aim, closely connected with the first, was to discuss and elaborate three important issues for the CSCL community: a) How can social interactions be transformed into accounts of these interactions? b) What is the relation between studies of interaction and theories of learning? c) How can the studies of interaction be made relevant for technological and curricular design?
