In
shaping the scientific evolution of technology enhanced learning – the
main goal of Kaleidoscope – it is necessary to remember that all
research is supported by theory and investigation. Because Technology
Enhanced Learning is not always associated with tried and tested
scientific methods, Kaleidoscope members look at the evolving
interaction between the theory and experiments; it examines the divide
between researchers and users in order to enrich and challenge the
fields of TEL research, enabling them to mature.
Often
expectations of technology’s ability to provide ‘miracle’ solutions and
‘one size fits all’ answers within education have not been met. There
remains a dichotomy between how quickly technologies develop and the
ability of sound pedagogic applications and scenarios, and accompanying
research, to keep up in order to truly benefit users.
Through the Kaleidoscope network, researchers from different
backgrounds, cultures, research activities and experiences are coming
together to build a sound, European foundation for Technology Enhanced
Learning. Representatives from the network:
Manage
extensive internal research activities in pan-European teams. Learners
should expect more personalised, reactive learning environments.
Eventually these could be integrated into global education systems,
whether in formal or informal settings;
Develop
pilot services that support TEL research at Masters and PhD levels
across Europe. Researchers and students can interact and exchange ideas
and findings, leading to coherence and understanding of concepts and
methods;
Provide the opportunity for
individuals and teams to come together formally and informally through
an integrated network with common, evolving and converging agendas;
Facilitate
improved communication between researchers and policy makers, teachers,
students and others with an interest in the future of education across
Europe;
Develop strategies that support the Kaleidoscope vision and mission.
